Gordon Nardell For Cities of London and Westminster
Buried deep in the papers for the Audit and Performance committee on November 27th was the following example of Westminster’s lack of efficiency, which led to the council being fined £7,350 by the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman:
“However, it should be noted that one payment from GPH, Housing Solutions Service totalled £7350. This was a large payment owing to the fact that during the course of the LGSCO investigation they established that a family was living in unsuitable temporary accommodation for nearly 4 years and therefore awarded £350 for distress and time and trouble in pursuing the complaint and £150 for each month living in unsuitable temporary accommodation (£150 x 47 months = £7,050)”
Nickie Aiken, who has been Leader of of the Council for City of Westminster since December 2016, is the Conservative candidate for Cities of London and Westminster in the upcoming General Election.
Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labour Party, said:
“I am determined to create a society where working class communities and young people have access to affordable, good quality council and social homes.
“Everyone knows someone affected by the housing crisis. Labour is offering real change to fix it.”
