Buried deep in the papers for the Audit and Performance committee on November 27th was the following example of Westminster’s lack of efficiency, which led to the council being fined £7,350 by the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman:

“However, it should be noted that one payment from GPH, Housing Solutions Service totalled £7350. This was a large payment owing to the fact that during the course of the LGSCO investigation they established that a family was living in unsuitable temporary accommodation for nearly 4 years and therefore awarded £350 for distress and time and trouble in pursuing the complaint and £150 for each month living in unsuitable temporary accommodation (£150 x 47 months = £7,050)”
